June 22, Forward Thinking Fellows and guests had a fascinating meeting with Tarek Osman, a widely published Egyptian political and economic analyst. Discussion centred around the Egyptian revolution.
Tarek Osman briefly narrated what he saw as the most important historical factors that contributed to the social and political situation in which the revolution happened. Discussion then turned to the political make-up of the new Egypt, what are the principle debates underway, who are the most significant political currents, and where and what is the political centre ground in the country.
The conversation was very rich, and despite what can appear very heated and tense debates in Egypt between the different political forces, a political centre ground is emerging, which is going to be very influential in the forthcoming elections and the building of the democratic process in Egypt, Tarek argued.
