The conference was hosted by the Turkish Foreign Ministry bringing together mediators from around the world,including governments, non governmental organisations, the UN, OSCE and other organisations.

The conference aimed to explore the potential of mediation for the achievement of sustainable peace and the elimination of existing and potential sources of violence.

The conference is part of the Turkish government’s promotion of mediation at the UN, and along with Finland is a co-Chair of the UN Group of Friends of Mediation.

The conference aimed to assess the effectiveness of mediation to addressing the changed nature of today’s conflicts, stimulate exchanges on best practices and experiences, and contribute to discussion promoting the the use and effectiveness of mediation as a tool for sustainable peace.
