On Friday 31 March, Forward Thinking convened an online meeting to discuss the unfolding crisis in Israel, as intense protests continue in response to proposed judicial reforms.

The discussion was led by MK Aida Touma-Suleiman, a well-known Palestinian- Israeli journalist and member of the Knesset for the Hadash party. She was elected in June 2015 and was also elected to head the Knesset’s Committee on the Status of Women and Gender Equality. Participants, including officials, policymakers and parliamentarians, from the EU, France, Ireland, Jordan, Norway, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK attended.

Discussion focused on the possibility of a compromise over the judicial reforms between opposition parties and the government, the concerns of both Arab and Palestinian citizens of Israel, the deteriorating situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and international responses to recent developments.
