Meeting with Sarah Champion MP and John Ging on the Humanitarian Crises in Gaza and Sudan, 2 December 2025

WSF

On 2 December, we convened a meeting with Sarah Champion MP, Chair of the House of Commons International Development Committee, and John Ging, former Director of the Operational Division at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in New York and former Director of Operations in Gaza for UNRWA. The discussion focused on the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian crises in both Gaza and Sudan, highlighting the urgent need for strengthened international action and protection for civilians, children, humanitarian workers, and local civil society groups.

Later that same day, Sarah Champion MP drew directly on insights from the meeting during her questioning of the Foreign Secretary in the House of Commons. She stressed that the UK’s humanitarian support for Sudan has been “paltry” and pressed the government on plans for evacuating children and humanitarian workers, efforts to increase support from international partners, and the need to ensure that women and civil society are central to securing a ceasefire and shaping peace efforts. She also asked what more the UK, as the UN penholder on Sudan, can do to ensure these voices are amplified.
