Fellows Meeting with Forward Thinking Staff and Discussion on the Future Direction and Priorities of the Programme, 29 January 2026

On 29 January, the Forward Thinking Fellows and staff held a meeting at the office to reflect on past Fellows events, welcome new members, and discuss the skills and experience Fellows hope to gain through the programme. The meeting also explored Forward Thinking’s upcoming activities, and how a rapidly evolving global political and Middle East context is shaping its work.

Fellows reflected on the value of the 28 January meeting with H. E. Mr Martin Fraser, Ambassador of Ireland to Great Britain, highlighting insights into Ireland’s peace process and its relevance for contemporary conflicts in the Middle East. Many expressed interest in further in-person events and similar engagements with senior political figures to deepen their exposure to diplomatic practice and international relations.

Fellows identified key areas for professional and personal development. These included diplomatic report writing and conflict mediation skills, and exposure to discussions spanning the role of Israeli culture in politics, the impact of racism on the safety of visibly Muslim women in the UK, and gender-based violence in the Middle East and Europe. In response, staff committed to delivering targeted skills sessions and involving Fellows in relevant activities across its Middle East, Women for a Sustainable Future, and UK programmes.
