Follow-up meeting with Palestinian Educators in Cairo, 10 December 2025
Meeting of Gazan Educators in Cairo, December 2025
On 10 December, in coordination with our Egyptian partners SHAF, we convened a meeting in Cairo for the 25 Gazan educators who participated in our pilot project in August. These educators were selected by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) in Ramallah to participate in the initiative, aimed at training the teachers in trauma-informed pedagogy, open-source curriculum development, e-learning and digital skills.
The purpose of the meeting was to reflect on lessons learned from the August pilot training, share educators’ lived experiences since returning to their classrooms, and to inform the design of the next phase of the programme.
The Gazan educators currently based in Cairo shared how they have applied trauma-informed and inclusive teaching approaches since the August training, including adapting lesson plans and supporting colleagues. The meeting also incorporated input from an online intervention with teachers still working inside Gaza, who described the ongoing realities of teaching amid severe learning loss, psychological trauma, destroyed or overcrowded learning spaces, and acute resource shortages.
Insights from both groups highlighted the urgent need for continued support focused on trauma-informed pedagogy, open-source curriculum development, and blended and offline-friendly digital learning. This feedback will be used to inform the design of our upcoming workshops in coordination with the SHAF centre in Cairo, Queen’s University Belfast and St Mary’s University College Belfast, under the leadership of the Palestinian MOEHE.
