Gaza Education Programme: Meeting with the Education Commissioner and his Team in Cairo, 14 October 2026

On 14 October, we convened a meeting between Dr Jabr Al-Daour, Education Commissioner for the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, and the cohort of displaced Gazan teachers participating in our Gaza Education Programme.

During the meeting, Dr Al-Daour and his team presented their Gaza Education Recovery Strategic Plan (2026–2029), outlining the scale of destruction to Gaza's education sector and the priorities for its recovery and reconstruction. The discussion highlighted the urgent need to restore access to education, address significant learning loss and provide psychological support to children affected by the war.

The Gazan educators then provided feedback on the strategy, drawing on their learnings from the training sessions we have facilitated in partnership with Queen's University Belfast, St Mary's University College Belfast and the SHAF Center in Cairo for Future Studies and Crisis Analysis under the strategic guidance of the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Ramallah.

This meeting represents an important development in our Gaza Education Programme, providing an opportunity for the teachers' experiences and the skills developed through our training to directly inform planning for the rehabilitation of Gaza's education system.

Dr Al-Daour presents his strategy to the educators.
