Online Briefing with Aida Touma-Suleiman MK on Israeli Politics, the West Bank, and Life for Palestinian Citizens of Israel, 16 February 2026
On 16 February 2026, Forward Thinking convened an online briefing with Aida Touma-Suleiman MK, a Palestinian member of the Israeli Knesset for the Hadash, on the eve of her departure from parliament. MK Touma-Suleiman provided an assessment of Israeli domestic politics and its consequences for Palestinians inside Israel and in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
The briefing centred on pivotal, unfolding events in Israel including new laws on the death penalty, decisions to register land in the West Bank, and a worsening crisis of organised crime and gun violence among Palestinian communities inside Israel. On the eve of Ramadan, participants also discussed the elevated risk of clashes at the Al-Aqsa compound in the Old City of Jerusalem.
MK Touma-Suleiman spoke about her decision not to stand again for the Knesset after over a decade of public service, and her intention to work outside parliament with civil society and groups dedicated to peace and coexistence.
The meeting was attended by parliamentarians, diplomats, and experts from our network across the UK, Europe, and West Asia region.
