Parliamentary Roundtable: Confronting Islamophobia and Far-Right Extremism in the UK, 16 December 2025
On 16 December 2025, we convened a parliamentary roundtable on "Confronting Islamophobia and Far-Right Extremism: Advancing Policy and Community Resilience."
The event took place in the House of Lords and included Baroness Sayeeda Warsi and Naz Shah MP as speakers. It brought together parliamentarians, Muslim community leaders, faith representatives, civil society organisations, and legal experts, including Sir Max Hill, former Director of Public Prosecutions and former Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation.
Building on our previous roundtable on 4 November, which identified serious concerns around deepening mistrust, rising hostility, and challenges around policing and representation, this meeting focused on translating these concerns into actionable responses. Participants examined Islamophobia as a systemic issue affecting democratic participation, public safety, and institutional legitimacy. The discussion also addressed the normalisation of anti-Muslim rhetoric, coordinated far-right mobilisation, and the impact of discrimination on Muslim families' daily lives. Speakers emphasised the need for equal approaches to extremism, consistent enforcement of equality legislation, and sustained support for community-led resilience initiatives.
We will continue to facilitate engagement between policymakers and British Muslim communities, supporting inclusive dialogue, informed policymaking, and practical cooperation to strengthen social cohesion across the UK.
