WSF Meeting in Cairo- Understanding the Impact of the Palestine-Israel Conflict on Gazan Educators and Gaps in International Response to Support the Education Sector, 10 June 2026
On 10 June, the Women for a Sustainable Future (WSF) Network convened displaced Gazan educators based in Cairo, alongside parliamentarians, diplomats, and policy experts, to discuss the impact of conflict on education in both Gaza and host countries and to identify practical policy solutions to better support Palestinian students and teachers.
Key Themes
Despite prolonged displacement, trauma, and the loss of homes and family members, Gazan teachers continue to deliver education under extraordinary conditions. Participants also highlighted the value of adaptive learning and trauma-informed teaching methods in helping students continue learning.
Displaced students and teachers face significant administrative challenges, including difficulties obtaining recognised qualifications, accessing accredited education, and securing employment opportunities outside Gaza.
Key Recommendations
Protect Education During Conflict
Prioritise the protection and reconstruction of educational infrastructure and uphold education as a fundamental human right.
Expand Teacher Training and Adaptive Learning
Increase support for trauma-informed teaching, distance learning, and professional development programmes that enable educators to continue delivering education in crisis settings.
Support Displaced Students and Teachers
Reduce barriers to recognised education by improving access to accredited schooling, qualifications, and certification for displaced Palestinians.
